棉籽是棉花作物的种籽。由棉铃中采取的棉花称籽棉，由籽棉上轧下来的棉纤维称皮棉，籽棉除去皮棉后，即可取得棉籽。棉籽外部为坚硬的褐色籽壳，形状大小也因品种而异。籽壳内有胚，是棉籽的主要部分，也称籽仁。籽仁含油量可达35-45%，含蛋白质39%左右，含棉酚0.2%-2%。

棉籽也是重要的榨油原料，棉籽油含有大量的不饱和脂肪酸。
